It was a blame game at the weekend between the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and Independent Marketers over scarcity and hike in the price of kerosene.
The NNPC said it had been supplying marketers the product and at the regulated price, while the marketers debunked the claim even as consumers decry the shortages and accompanying high price.
However, both the NNPC and the marketers seem to affirm that kerosene had not been deregulated, contrary to the assumption by some filling stations' managers.
Investigation reveals that a litre of kerosene sells at between N190 and N200 in many parts of Lagos, thus putting the product virtually out of reach of the average Nigerians, who have resorted to alternatives, particularly firewood to meet their domestic needs.
