Title: President Jonathan Promises Adequate Security Of Life And Property For Citizens
Post by: TGD on May 01, 2011, 12:05 PM
For Nigerians, who have expressed concerns over the spate of security challenges in recent times, President Good luck Jonathan has promised them adequate security of life and property.

The president said this would continue to receive priority attention now and in the next government beginning from May 29.

Consequently, Jonathan has retreated to the Obudu community in Cross River State, whose serene environment will give him the opportunity to reflect on his agenda for the next administration.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Strategy, Oronto Douglass, told The Guardian that president did not just go to Obudu to rest after the rigours of campaigns and elections, but to catch up on old files and focus on the nature of the unfolding dispensation.

Oronto said: "He (president) has gone there to work and reflect. He is one person who does not like having things left undone. If you go to his office in the Villa, he likes to keep a clean table.

"My guess is that many weeks and months of campaigning have accumulated volumes of paperwork that needed attending to. As the inauguration gets close, all that needs to be done before May 29 will have to be done."

On priority areas that the president will focus on after inauguration, Oronto said Jonathan would focus on issues that concern ordinary Nigerians.

"He will focus on the issues that matter to ordinary citizens, the most: electricity and security; education and transportation and agriculture and infrastructure.

"He will focus attention to create wealth, so as to ensure that poverty and unemployment are defeated in the great battle for survival," he said.

On the people's security concerns, he said the president had demonstrated tremendous courage in tackling security challenges in the last 10 months, but that he would not resort to rough tactics just to win premature accolades.

"We must be very careful not to promote or applaud individuals who made desperate attempt to engender impunity as state policy," he said.

"Evidence of the last 10 months speaks of the triumph of strength, courage and vision in Dr. Jonathan in tackling security challenges whether they come from merchants of violence or entrepreneurs of intolerance..."
