Farmers in Ebonyi State have at the weekend urged government at all levels to address the recent hike in the prices of fertilisers across the country.
They said the products of various categories were earlier sold at N1,500 but are now N5,000 while those of herbicides and insecticides sold for N1,000 are now sold at N9,600.
Speaking with journalists, Mr. Jonas Nwogbaga, a participant at the ongoing training organised by the International Fertiliser Development Centre, IFDC, in collaboration with the Ebonyi State Agricultural Development Programme, ADP, for farmers in Iboko in Izzi Local Government Area of the state, called on the agency to reduce prices of fertilisers to food production.
However, the Coordinator of the training, Mr. Yahaya Kura, said the training was on safe handling and use of agro inputs as well as knowledge of fertilisers.
He said: "We provide farmers with seedlings, fertilisers and crop protection products such as herbicides and insecticides, to solve the numerous problems they encounter in accessing these products.
"Our organisation's activities were sponsored by the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, West African Economic and Monetary Union and the International Cooperation Department of the Netherlands' Ministry of Development Cooperation."

Of course it has to worry the farmers. Who else would it worry? We should always learn to have the comfort of others at heart when doing certain things.
