Ogun State Government has warned some leaders of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) who have been going round schools to force teachers and students out of classrooms to desist or face the wrath of the law.
In a statement by Mr. Olusegun Odubela, Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, the government noted that while the generality of teachers in the State owned Primary and Secondary Schools reported for work today and went about their duties peacefully, some individuals claiming to be NUT officials went round schools disrupting academic activities.
"These individuals started forcing teachers to abandon the schools and chasing students out of the classrooms. We view this sad development very strongly. Government wishes to warn these so called union officials to stay away from our schools. The State Government is determined to protect pupils/students, teachers and facilities in all public schools", it stated.
The government said that security agencies have been duly informed about the need to checkmate the activities of individuals who are constituting threat to the peace in public schools.
"We therefore assure parents that academic activities in state owned primary and secondary schools will continue uninterrupted and that all students/pupils should promptly report in their respective schools without any fear whatsoever as government has made adequate arrangement to ensure hitch free academic activities", the government stated.
