The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has been sued before a Federal High Court, Abuja for alleged abuse of the fundamental human rights of three middle-aged men, Geoffrey Aondoakaa, David Kor and Cyprian Ukertyo.
The Plaintiffs alleged torture by one Group Captain Garba of Nigerian Air Force Base, Abuja.
Joined in the suit are the Chief of Air Staff and Minister of Defence.
In an originating motion filed on their behalf by some Abuja-based human rights lawyers last Friday, the plaintiffs alleged that they were forcefully arrested by Garba on May 21, 2013 over an allegation that they had stolen his (Garba's) laptop computer while working in his house sometime in 2012.
In an affidavit in support of their motion, the third applicant (Cyprian Ukertyo), said upon denial of stealing Garba's computer, the defendant and three other Air Force personnel stripped the first two applicants naked, tied their hands and consistently flogged them with horse whips and military belts.
"As if that was not enough, the 1st respondent plugged an electric heater/boiling ring and an electric pressing iron into an electric socket and upon confirmation that it was indeed very hot, removed same and stamped on various parts of the applicants' bodies resulting into grievous body injuries".
They are therefore asking for an order of court awarding the sum of N300 million jointly and severally against the respondents.
