Worried by the high rate of unemployment in the country, the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has said it would collaborate with various entrepreneurs and other stakeholders to create 5,000 jobs for the jobless Nigerian youth.
NYCN National President, Comrade Yakubu Shendam, who announced this at a press conference in Abuja, also noted that as part of measures of addressing the problem of poverty among Nigerian youth, the Council resolved to establish a Youth Micro Finance Scheme and to also put in place a N10 billion Youth Development Trust Fund within the next four years.

Shendam explained that the Micro Finance Scheme and the Trust Fund would enable the Nigerian Youth to access loans that would make them independent.
Shendam who announced a 13-point agenda shortly after his election told Journalists that the 5000 jobs would be spread across the six geo-political zones.
Moreover, according to him, the council will partner with Nigerian youth in the Diaspora with a view to encouraging them to bring their wealth of experience back to Nigeria.
Shendam said the 200 hectares of land donated to the council by the FCT administration in 2010 would be used to build the Nigerian Youth Village which will serve as a centre for skills acquisition for the youth.
He dismissed as false, insinuations that his election was funded by the National Chairman of the People's Democratic Party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, and Plateau state Governor, Jonah Jang.
