Some gunmen on Monday evening killed the Chairman, House Committee on Finance of the Sokoto state House of Assembly, Hon. Murtala Dahiru Wauru. Eyewitness accounts said the incident occurred at about 9 pm at the deceased's Minnata area residence, in central Sokoto metropolis. Reports said that the gunmen, riding on a motorcycle, shot the PDP lawmaker at close range. They later made away with his Peugeot 406 ash-colour car, after confirming him dead.
Spokesman of the Sokoto State Police Command, ASP Almustapha Sani, confirmed the incident yesterday noting that men of the CIB had launched an investigation into the matter. The deceased lawmaker has since been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
When our correspondent visited his residence yesterday, several sympathizers were there to condole with the family.
Governor Aliyu Wamakko who expressed shock over the killing described the deceased as man of peace who was committed to development of the state and the country at large.
