Overall Responsibilities: The RAcE 2015 project seeks to contribute to the reduction of childhood mortality in Nigeria through increasing access to quality integrated community case management (iCCM) of childhood diseases in Abia and Niger states.
Primary Responsibilities: Management Sciences for Health is looking for state coordinators (one each for Abia and Niger states) of its integrated community case management of malaria project to support the State Ministry of Health in Abia and Niger states and a team in each of those states to pilot the iCCM in Nigeria. This will be done in close coordination with WHO, the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH), and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA). This includes supporting the state assessments of the status of iCCM, planning and coordinating capacity building workshops for community health workers in each state and monitoring implementation plans. Working under the direct supervision of the MSH Country Representative, the state coordinators will also assist with donor reporting and liaising with stakeholders.
Specific Responsibilities:
• Support the pilot of iCCM in Nigeria in the context of the RAcE2015 project, in liaison with WHO, FMoH, the NPHCDA and the Ministry of health in Abia/Niger States;
• Provide technical assistance to the Abia/Niger states Ministry of Health to develop implementation plans for the iCCM project in collaboration with the FMoH/NPHCDA.
• Provide technical assistance to the Ministry of Health of Abia and Niger States to develop/adopt a monitoring and evaluation (M&E) framework and data collection tools for iCCM in collaboration with project staff and assist in the timely and high-quality collection of M&E indicators;
• Provide support for capacity building in relation to iCCM through training, supervision and mentoring;
• Support the integration of iCCM interventions into Abia/Niger state government health services
• Supervise the implementation of the project work plans in Abia/Niger states, with a particular focus on M&E requirements and production of reports to the donor agency;
o Manage workplan timeline of activities
• Produce quarterly progress reports, and other briefs as needed.
o Participate in relevant committee meetings as needed
• Develop and maintain ongoing collaborative relationships and partnerships with WHO, key federal and state governments counterparts as well as other key implementing partners and stakeholders
Qualifications:
Education/Experience Required:
• Degree in medicine, with post graduate degree in pediatrics, epidemiology or public health
• At least three years work experience with health and development organizations.
• Knowledge and working experience with the Ministry of Health at state, LGA and community levels.
• Knowledge in public health problems, in M&E methods and tools, knowledge of malaria, pneumonia and diarrheal diseases and childhood Diseases;
• Technical competence in Malaria and childhood diseases with skills in developing implementation plans.
• Strong interpersonal, facilitation and communication skills and team working
• Ability to think logically and solve problems, ability to pay attention to detail and bring tasks to completion, and ability to work collaboratively.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
• Proven ability to anticipate length and difficulty of task assignments, set project objectives, work on multiple tasks at once, anticipate problems and evaluate results.
• Computer literacy in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
