Nigeria Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA).has given approval to Global Scansystems to commence operation of its fixed scanners at the Seme border post.

Chief Executive Officer, Global Scansystems, Fred Udechukwu, who disclosed this during a facility tour, explained that the fixed scanner site is now ready and awaiting the formal launch.

A team of officials from NNRA were at Seme border post to "inspect and enforce radiological safety and protection" of the Smiths Detection-made dual-view scanner.

A staff of Smiths Detection described the 9 mega electron volts (MeV) scanner as the highest possible energy-level to be used for scanning and is capable of penetrating through 40 centimetres of steel. "The dual-view visual scanner is capable of material discrimination, which is between organic and non-organic, allowing for just one high- resolution scan as against two by other models.
