Title: Agwai replaces Kontagora as SURE-P deputy chairman

President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the appointment of General Martin Luther Agwai (rtd) as the new deputy chairman of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme, SURE-P.

Agwai, a former Chief of Defence Staff and Chief of Army Staff, replaced Major- General Mamman Kontagora who died last week.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, said in a statement yesterday that the highly-decorated general who also held several other military appointments within and outside the country, including Deputy Force Commander of the United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone and Force Commander of the African Union Mission in Sudan, had been a member of the SURE-P Committee since its establishment by in February last year.

The committee is charged with the responsibility of managing and reinvesting the Federal Government's share of the savings from the removal of the subsidy on fuel in programmes and initiatives that would improve the living conditions of Nigerians.
