As part of his 70th birthday celebrations, the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, has re-instated Chief Alaba Lawson as the Iyalode of Egbaland.
Lawson, who is the proprietor of the Lawson Group of Schools, Abeokuta, Ogun State, was relieved of her position on January 15, 2008 by the Alake in council.
The Iyalode's removal from office came on the heels of her earlier suspension by Oba Gbadebo's predecessor, Oba Oyebade Lipede.
The decision to sack her from the honorary position of Iyalode Egba was taken at the monthly meeting of the Egba chieftaincy committee held at Ake palace on Friday January 11, 2008 and presided over by the Alake.
Lawson was allegedly sacked from the office of Iyalode of Egbaland for alleged unruly behaviour.
The Iyalode however alleged that her removal was politically motivated.
But speaking on behalf of the Alake at a news conference on Friday in Abeokuta, the Jaguna of Egbaland, Chief Clement Kufile, said the monarch had forgiven the Iyalode.
Kufile said, "I can tell you authoritatively that our royal father, Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, has restored Chief Oluwaseun Alaba Lawson with all her privileges and rights as Iyalode of Egbaland; not even today, not even yesterday, but even more than six months ago."
Kufile added that the Alake's 70th birthday anniversary would commence on September 7 and end on September 14 with various activities including Jumat service, conferment of chieftaincy titles and others.
The Jaguna also expressed his appreciation for the state government's urban renewal programme, appealing to people of the state to support the Senator Ibikunle Amosun-led government.
