Armed bandits have struck again in two villages of Birnin Gwari local government area of Kaduna yesterday killing about four people as villagers desert the area.
Peoples Daily gathered that the attacked villages are Gwaron Dutse and Gwaska all in Birnin Gwari local government area of the state.
Sources from the village said most of the villagers have abandoned their houses and livestock due to the attack.
It was gathered that the unknown gunmen on Saturday at about 4 pm and started shooting sporadically, attacking innocent people on sight.
"It was very terrifying because we were at home when we started hearing gunshots from all directions.
"So, we all ran with our wives, children, adult and aged into nearby bush. We suspected the attackers to bandits that have been terrorizing our communities and villages.
"We need help because there were no policemen or soldiers in our town and this people always come to terrorize us.
"As I am talking to you now our villages have been turned to ghost town as we all abandoned everything to save our lives," he said.
It was also learnt that the attackers were at the town on Wednesday last week but was engaged in a shootout with vigilante group in the village in which some of the attackers were injured.
It was reported that the recent attack was a kind of revenge from the bandits on the village.
"They were at the village on Wednesday but our vigilante group engaged them in shootout so they left with some of them injured. That is why they came back on Saturday to revenge on the villagers," the source said.
The chairman of the local government, Alhaji Idris Musa Alhassan, confirmed the incident in a telephone interview.
He said four people were confirmed killed by the bandits and two more injured during the attack. According to him, the bandits are on the on as security agents are after them.
Kaduna state Police Commissioner, Adenaike Olufemi, said he was yet to be briefed on the issue.
Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero condemned the attack on Birnin Gwari community.
In a statement signed by the Director General, Media & Publicity, Ahmed Maiyaki, the Governor assured the people of his administration's commitment to protect their lives and property.
"Government will not rest on its oars until we bring these criminals to book," the statement said.
