Ogun State Government has started the construction of a 29Km Ofada – Mowe–Ibafo road in Obafemi /Owode Local Government Area of the state in order to reduce hardship faced by motorists and residents of the area.
Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Arc. Olamilekan Adegbite who made this known during an inspection visit to the road said it would be completed by the last quarter of next year.
Arc. Adegbite explained that when completed, the road would be another giant stride of the State government to create link roads in different parts of the State, affirming that it would help link residents living along Owode, Ofada, Mowe and Ibafo with other parts of the State.
According to him, the road project being handled by Central South Construction Company would be reconstructed into a six lane carriage way “Ogun Standard” road with accessories like median, streetlights, walkways, green belt and full drainage provided on both sides.
Describing it as another fulfilment of Governor Amosun’s pledge to give people living in the border areas a sense of belonging through provision of sustainable facilities, the Commissioner enjoined them to also perform their expected civic responsibilities by ensuring regular and proper payment of taxes and levies into government coffers in order to embark on more projects for their benefit.
“Without doubt, you will agree with me that this is a fulfillment of another electioneering campaign promise. Let me therefore appeal to our people that since government has been doing its best to make living more comfortable for them, the onus is on them to ensure regular and appropriate payment of their taxes into government’s coffers in order to have sufficient funds to embark on more developmental projects, of course for their use” Adegbite stated.
Speaking in an interview on the road construction, two residents of the area, Messrs Igwe John and Sulaimon Bolaji lauded Senator Amosun’s government for coming to their aid, saying they are happy to feel government’s presence in their area for the first time in decades. They appealed for quick completion of the road project as well as accelerated payment of compensation to owners of properties affected by the project.
