President Goodluck Jonathan has been accused of surpassing his predecessors in destabilizing Nigeria through his capricious style of politics, Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) has said.
In a statement issued yesterday by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Rotimi Fashakin, CPC also carpeted the President of the Christian association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, over his recent comments on former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.
According to the statement, "our attention has been drawn to the recent call by Pastor Ayodele Oritsejafor, President of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), for the arrest of General Muhammadu Buhari, the national leader of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) – on account of his recent commentaries on national issues.
"We are aware that this is a rehash of the stance of Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor to a previous piece of mendacious writing by Dr Reuben Abati in his Guardian Newspaper column, wherein he alluded to Buhari as being responsible for post-election violence in some parts of the north in April, 2011.
"The kernel of the latest orchestrated distortion of Buhari's recent commentaries was done to blacken him as supporting the insurgency of Boko Haram in Nigeria.
"It is our view that this statement is utterly tendentious and unsupportable by incontrovertible facts.
"We are aware that, as it was before and after the 2011 elections, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor is keen on helping the electoral fortunes of his friend, President Goodluck Jonathan.
"We leave discerning Nigerians to judge and see the incongruity in Pastor Oritsejafor's reckless call and Buhari's unwavering patriotic stand on Nigeria's insecurity.
"Again, Pastor Oritsejafor has proven to be, a willing implement for destabilization in the hands of the Presidency, in the orchestrated heckling of Buhari ahead of the 2015 elections.
"As we shall prove shortly, the moral rectitude, personal discipline and patriotic love for Nigeria by GMB is head and shoulder above what the current leaders of the Nation possess. "Buhari is not in the mould of leaders that do not match their words with deeds.
"As a Party, we know that the Federal Government of President Good-Luck Jonathan, like the previous PDP administration, seems too intimidated by Buhari's sterling qualities and previous meritorious service to Nigeria that no effort is spared to depreciate his status through deliberate distortions and misrepresentation of his statements.
Meanwhile, detailed information filtered in yesterday on how the Bauchi state Governor, Mallam Isa Yuguda, deceived former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, and prevented him from attending the wedding ceremony between Mohammed, son of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, and Badriyya, daughter to the former Bauchi state governor, Alhaji Adamu Mu'azu, at the Bauchi Emir's Palace at the weekend.
It was gathered that B uhari, who received formal invitation from the former Vice President arrived Bauchi Airport right on time aboard a chartered flight from his base in Kaduna some forty minutes to the 11am event en route the Emir's palace.
It was learnt that the protocol officers at the Bauchi Government House who had a fore knowledge of the General's arrival were at the airport to receive him but with an instruction to stop him from attending the wedding.
This plot, according to a competent source was to further demonstrate the Governor's loyalty to President Goodluck Jonathan.
It was also gathered that Buhari may have stolen the day given his popularity in the state and such may dwarf the presence of some other important dignitaries at the event.
Therefore, a plan to prevent him from arriving the Emir's palace, venue of the wedding.
On arrival, Buhari was received by the protocol officers who informed him that the time for the ceremony had been shifted from 11.00 a.m to midday and suggested they take him to the Presidential Lodge to wait till the appointed time.
An unsuspecting Buhari bought the suggestion but noted that that instead of going to the lodge, they should lead him to wait at the house of his good friend, Alhaji Yahya Abubakar.
After consulting with the Government House, the officers then led him to his friend's house where they waited.
A few minutes to 12.00 the General's entourage left for the Emir's palace only to arrive and be told by the Emir that he was late as the ceremony took place at 11.00.
He then stayed for a few minutes, conferred with the few dignitaries left behind and proceded to the airport and returned to Kaduna.
It was learnt that Buhari who felt disappointed told some people that he would not take offence at the treatment meted out to him saying that such could not be divulged from politics.
Efforts made to contact officials from the Bauchi Government House to confirm the story proved abortive.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Ishola Michael Adeyemi, when contacted said he was out of the country and would not be in position to know what happened at the weekend in Bauchi.
It would be recalled that Yuguda had benefitted from Buhari's leadership and popularity in the past having contested and won the state governorship election in 2007 under the All Nigeria People's Party (ANPP).
The Bauchi Governor however was later to ditch the ANPP for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after the presidential election which Buhari lost to late President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua.
Yuguda was loyal to the late President to the end even as he demonstrated such loyalty by getting married to one of Yar'adua's daughters.
The loyalty was shifted to Jonathan who succeeded his late boss.
There are situations however that Yuguda's loyalty may not be unconnected with the politics of 2015 when he would have served out his second term as the governor of Bauchi state.
