(http://fmi.gov.ng/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/maku-MP-300x200.jpg) The Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku, has lauded the great strides and momentum in the development of infrastructure in the Niger Delta Region, adding that it has brought renewal of hope in the previously forgotten region.
The Minister made the remarks at the presentation of accomplishments by the Ministries of Niger Delta Affairs and that of Labour and productivity at the on-going Ministerial Platform in Abuja.
Mr Maku noted that the Niger Delta Ministry which was carved out in 2008, to address a major issue of infrastructural gap, is witnessing progress in the flagship of roads and other infrastructure which was never seen in the 1960s. He upheld the efforts of the Federal Government to salvage the area which has suffered neglect and environmental smog for so long and praised the multiplicity of projects which he said is an indication that the region is moving forward.
He applauded the Niger Delta Ministry and the Niger Delta Development Corporation (NDDC) for their feats in projects initiated in all the oil producing states and called for more Federal Government's intervention to redress the long decades of injustices in the region.
While speaking earlier, the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe, affirmed that the Ministry has trained over 706 non militant youths across the 9 Niger Delta States to acquire skills in various sectors of the economy, with some of the trainees gainfully employed.
Elder Orubebe also informed of the production by the Ministry in conjunction with development partners, of a Development Blue Print called the Niger Delta Action Plan with focus on three pillars, including – Infrastructure Investment Programme, Social Sector Investment Programme and Institutional Capacity Development and Multi-Stake Holder Trust Fund.
