The Minister noted that hard work and dedication, will make young athletes winners not only in sporting activities, but in other sectors such as the banking industry, agricultural sector and in other sectors of the Nigerian economy.

He observed that the country is presently witnessing huge progress in various sectors and moving from zeros to heroes in the sporting arena as a result of the present superior management and more purposeful sports administration in the country spearheaded by the Minister of Sports which he said has inspired young athletes to aim for the medals.

The Minister who congratulated the young Nigerian athletes for waxing stronger in both the junior and senior athletics, maintained that until now, the sector has not had it so good in many decades.

He decried the rebelliousness which was rife among sports officials and which slows down positive engagements and called for integrity and high sense of decorum in the sector.

Mr. Maku noted that the focus on sports by President Goodluck Jonathan has placed athletics at centre stage in Nigeria and Africa as a whole and urged Nigerians to join hands to move the sector to higher pedestal.
