Chairman of the Edo State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Dan Orbih, has faulted claims by the National Vice-Chairman, South-South of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, that the party caused the failure of the administration of former Governor Lucky Igbinedion.
Ize-Iyamu, a former Secretary to the State Government, at a forumin Benin, last Saturday, said the PDP leadership in the state contributed to Igbinedion's "lacklustre performance" in office.
But dismissing the allegation as mischievous, Orbih said the ex-SSG's statement had exposed the kind of people who formed the nucleus of Igbinedion's government.
Orbih said for an ex-SSG to criticise the party he served for eight years, exposed the "underbelly" of those in the administration.
He said, "I want to state that looking at the profile of that government from 1999 up to 2003, there was no office or position created by that government which was supposed to be occupied by a godfather. So, they cannot blame their success or failure on an imaginary godfather.
"The lesson we must learn from the unguarded statement from Ize-Iyamu is that in whatever we do, we should do it with the fear of God and with the interest of the people at heart. They have served and they are out of office.
"What I could pick from his statement is that on his own, he has publicly admitted that they failed as a government. What ought to have followed that admittance is an apology and not to be looking for innocent people to put the blame on."
The Punch
Of course they would always receive fault cos they tend to overdo things sometimes. This happens to almost all Nigerian politicians.
