The Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro, yesterday decorated the new Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) boss, David Shikfu Parradang, urging him to restore integrity and discipline in the service.
This follows his appointment by President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday.
Moro said the choice of Parradang at this critical moment of the service was necessary to restructure the service of certain irregularities that beclouded it recently.
"Because of the insecurity in the country, it became imperative that a new pragmatic, disciplined, hardworking committed thorough bred Immigration officer should be appointed to restructure and re-engineer the immigration service, in order to deal effectively with contemporary Immigration matter".
"Any officer who acts in disregard for extent regulations guiding the service will be dismissed"
In line with regulations guiding the service, the Minister announced the retirement of five Deputy Comptroller Generals.
Meanwhile, Chief Whip of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Golu Timothy yesterday thanked President Goodluck Jonathan for addressing what he called the marginalization which the state had been made to go through by appointing their son, as the new Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, saying the president should be rest assured of the totality of plateau votes come 2015.
In a statement, Golu who described Jonathan as a listening leader who is sensitive to the plight of his people, commended the president for his excellent performance in the last 2 years as reflected in his performance report which he presented on May 29.
Urging all Nigerians to support Jonathan in his on-going bid take the nation to the next level, the chief whip said, "The appointment of Nde paradang has lifted the spirit of the people of Plateau and raised their confidence in the federal government as the state seems to have been forgotten and marginalised in federal appointments.
"President Jonathan has demonstrated objectivity and merit by this appointment. Plateau people are happy and proud of the PDP led government and it is for this reason that we will stop at nothing to ensure that the president continues with his transformation agenda which is basically people oriented.
"While we have also noticed with dismay the antics of opposition in the country geared at distracting the Jonathan administration from delivering all the deliverables his economic team with in stock to achieve and fulfill his electoral promise to the people of Nigeria, we urge our dear president not to be deterred by the evil machinations of those who vowed that the country would not forge ahead in its present state as big brother of Africa.
"Apart from this kind gesture extended to the people in the Plateau by the appointment of one of its illustrious sons, we believe strongly that four years will be too small for the president to turn the fortunes of this country around for good; hence, we are also by this statement endorsing for a second shot at the presidency come 2015."
