The Chairman of Rotary International 9110, comprising clubs in Lagos and Ogun states, Prince Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi, has said good ethical standard and zero tolerance for corruption among Nigerians are achievable by investing in the education of young indigent Nigerians.

Adelusi-Adeluyi said this on Thursday at Rotary Centre, Ikeja, Lagos, during a ceremony, at which five indigent tertiary students were awarded scholarships by Rotary International, District 9110. The five students were given N100,000 each to "advance their education and become upstanding and outstanding citizens."

Adelusi-Adeluyi said,  "I wish other service organisations, non-governmental organisations and the the private sector would emulate this philosophy of awarding scholarships to indigent but brilliant students in our various tertiary institutions.

"This would have a positivey multiplier effect on the educational and professional standards in our country. The idea is to have young students, who can study without the burden of poverty and focus on attaining the best in their various professional fields.

"Hence, they would become good ambassadors of various organisations sponsoring them. They will have a challenge to protect their integrity. What this country needs are professionals with high ethical standards, who would eschew corruption and other malfeasance."

The recipients of the scholarships are Moboluwaduro Oshodi, who is a 200 level Medicine and Surgery student of the University of Lagos; Amosun Joyce, a 200 level Mathematics student of Tai Solarin University of Education; Damilola Onitiri, a 200 level Medicine and Surgery student of Lagos State University; Ogbabi Samson, a 200 level Computer Science student of Lagos State University; and Bamidele Raji, a 200 level Accounting student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta. The students all expressed their gratitude to the organisation and expressed the hope that they would want to be  responsible and honourable citizens of the country.
