The Minister stated that her Ministry has engaged in natural resources conservation, sustainable development of the Nigerian environment and environmental protection.  She further emphasised on the key performance indicators of her Ministry: achieving a clean and healthy environment, restoration of degraded sites, increasing the nation's vegetation cover, conservation of biodiversity, provision of effective and efficient administrative framework for environmental management, articulating and enforcing environmental laws and regulation, giving guidelines and standards and ensuring environmental awareness.

The Minister was speaking at the on-going 2013 Ministerial Platforms when she said that "Every State of the federation suffers from environmental problem or the other in varying degrees.   She attributed most of these problems to general poor   attitude towards the environment with lots of scepticism, low level of intervention in environmental management by States, poor compliances with existing policies and regulations on environmental issues.
