Post by: OgunState on Jun 16, 2013, 01:31 PM
The Ogun State Government has launched its branded haulage stickers to tackle fraudulent acts, sanitize the haulage toll collection system and address the issue of double taxation. Speaking at the public presentation of the sticker in Abeokuta, Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Otunba Bimbo Ashiru said it would also help to streamline, unify haulage collection and eradicate the use of spikes, thugs and hooligans for the collection of haulage toll across the state.

“Throwing spikes on the road is not Ogun standard, so we are trying to let people know that we are working. The only way to do this is by ensuring that stakeholders understand our focus and strategy. What we are trying to do is to unify haulage payment so that it will be one. We will thereafter do our balance of settlement in house.” He said.

He assured that monitoring activities would be intensified to ensure compliance as the stickers had been computerized for effective monitoring and easy identification, pointing out that it would also ensure efficient and effective haulage payment for both corporate organizations and individuals.Ashiru lamented that the State Government had been losing about N250 million monthly to unscrupulous individuals who print fake haulage tickets, he however expressed optimism that the new sticker expected to come into operation from the first day of next month would address the unwholesome practice.

In their remarks, representatives of stakeholders in attendance including Dangote Cement Plc, Purechem Cement and Truck Owners Association of Nigeria commended the State Government’s initiative and expressed readiness to cooperate towards ensuring successful operation.
