Newcastle United striker Papiss Cisse fired a brace to inspire Senegal to a 2-0 away win over Liberia to remain firm favourites to reach the final qualifying phase round of the 2014 World Cup.
.
The win puts the Teranga Lions back in the driving seat of Group J on nine points after five matches played heading into this September's final qualifying round of group matches.
.
Cisse was on target in each half of Senegal's penultimate Group J match played in Monrovia.
.
The 2002 Fifa World Cup finalists completed back to-back wins over the Lone Star whom they defeated 3-1 on June 2 in Dakar in both sides' opening pool fixture. Liberia were stunned as early as the 19th minute when Cisse stepped up to convert a penalty.
.
Cisse was back on target nine minutes into the second half to score his first two goals in the 2014 Brazil qualifiers.
.
The win sees Senegal return to the top of Group J after Uganda had taken the overnight lead on June 15 after the Cranes beat Angola 2-1 in Kampala. Senegal are on nine points from five games, one point ahead of Uganda whom they host in their final Group J qualifier on September 8 in Dakar.
.
The Teranga Lions need only a draw in that final game at home against Uganda to ensure they advance to October's Africa zone final qualifying stage.
.
Meanwhile, Liberia are bottom of Group J on four points and out of the running heading into their final fixture away on September 7 against third placed Angola, who are also on the same number points.
