Parading the suspects at the command headquarters in the state capital, the Comptroller of the command, Hamman Yerima, told journalists that the illegal immigrants, mainly youths, were arrested by his men in various parts of Kaduna metropolis for not possessing the relevant travelling documents. He blamed the influx of illegal immigrants into Nigeria to the porous nature of the borders and lack of logistics to effectively police the borders, expressing fear that such situation poses great security threat to the country. The comptroller decried the practice whereby illegal foreigners are taking advantage of the ECOWAS treaty on free movement of people within the West African sub-region to enter into the country without proper documentation. He added that the command had concluded plans to send the 49 illegal Nigerians back to their country
