The Niger state House of Assembly has summoned the Director General of SURE-P and the Director of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) to appear before it, to throw light on some important issues regarding the programmes of SURE-P in the state.

This followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by the member representing Kontagora II constituency, Shehu S. Pawa.

The law maker had in the motion, stated that the Federal Government did set up the SURE-P following the fuel subsidy removal to alleviate poverty and create jobs for unemployed youths in the country.

Shehu Pawa told the house that subsequent to this, the State Government set up a committee headed by a Director General to co-ordinate the affairs of this body. He regretted that since the committee was set up, most of the youths who were engaged from various local governments in the state have not been paid for some months, a situation he said, could defeat the purpose of setting up the SURE-P.

The motion was immediately adopted to invite the Director General of SURE-P Hassan Nuhu to appear before the house committee on rules and businesses to explain how far the program was being implemented in the state since its inception.

The House also discovered during its deliberations that the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) was a key player in the execution of  SURE-P programmes in the state, and thereby invited the DG to come alongside his SURE-P counterpart.
