The award was presented to him by the Chairman of the Council, Ibrahim Mohammad Kanoma at the Government House, Katsina.  He described the Governor as courageous, hardworking and a man who initiates development projects for his people. The Chairman pointed out that the rapid transformation in Katsina State was highly commendable and stressed that the continuity policy which have existed right from the tenure of former Governor, Late Umaru Musa Yar'Adua to date should be promoted higher in terms of development.

Mohammed Kanoma disclosed that the new executive committee has in plan to build an ICT and duplex chalets for visitors to enable journalists in the state practice their profession with modern facilities; adding that the project was estimated to cost about N60million.

In his address, Governor Shema described Katsina and Zamfara as one in terms of neighborhood and culture. He expressed appreciation for the award, saying to look at someone's projects and express satisfaction is an indication that people appreciate what they have done which gives them courage to add more.

The governor further conveyed dissatisfaction with how some journalists report false stories and urged to them to desist from such act and rather give their contribution towards bringing stability and unity to the country. Governor Shema commended the Zamfara State NUJ for the good gesture, saying that he would look into the demands and see how he could assist the union to achieve the desired goals.
