Meanwhile, the World Bank has affirmed that it will offer necessary support to the programmes, initiatives and policies of the Ogun State Technical and Vocational Education Board towards improving technical and vocational studies in the State.
Dr. Olatunde Adekola who gave this assurance during a meeting with members of the Board in continuation of the team’s visit, explained that knowledge in vocational studies is a requisite for technological development in any developing country, emphasising that the World Bank is willing to offer assistance in this direction to Nigeria and Ogun State in particular.
Contributing, another member of the team, Dr. Merito Garcia who is an economist said the World Bank was committed to making youths employable, adding that Ogun State was blessed with a lot of industries that would need many skillful technologists and as a result change the thought that vocational studies are meant only for the “never do well” members of the society.
Responding, the Chairman, Mrs. Doyin Ogunbiyi said her Board would carry out a needs-assessment tour of various industries and the private sector with the aim of changing the stereotyped way of handling practitioners in the vocational sector. She added that a re-orientation of players and stakeholders in the sector would also be aggressively undertaken so that the new trend could be properly understood by all.
Mrs. Ogunbiyi pledged the Board’s readiness to cooperate with the team, assuring that Ogun State possessed natural and human resources needed to reposition vocational studies.
