Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission has created an additional 171 wards for the state.
Hitherto, the state had 245 wards.
The state also has 8,465 polling units approved by the Independent National Electoral Commission in 2011.
The LASIEC Chairman, Justice Afolabi Adeyinka (retd.), at a stakeholders' forum on the delineation of wards and creation of addition polling units on Thursday, said the new wards and polling units were subject to ratification by the State House of Assembly.
"Signing into law by the state governor and legislation by the Assembly would mark the end of the delineation exercise," Adeyinka said.
The chairman, who declined to give the details on the number of new polling units created by the commission, said the Assembly had a final say on the matter.
He said Lagos was underrepresented by the number of its constituencies, wards and polling units.
He added, "Our decision to delineate more wards and create more polling units was born out of the realisation of the under representation and the need to arrest the low turnout of eligible voters at local government council elections in the state."
