Leadership of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), yesterday said all Nigerians have the right to associate, hold opinions and to elect anybody as president come 2015 general elections.

It will be recalled that last Thursday, the Chairman of the Forum, Alhaji Aliko Mohammad was quoted to have accused the Presidency of using divide and rule tactics on Northern leaders, particularly among ACF members.

According to the Forum, when the time comes for politics, candidates from the northern region or zones should campaign for acceptance across the nation and not in their region or zones alone.

ACF National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Anthony Sani, while reacting to Thursday's comment by their chairman in Kaduna said this was how democracy could help strengthen the unity, stability and harmony of the Nigerian project.

He described media reports that said the Forum chairman urged northerners not to vote for President Jonathan as a complete misrepresentation of what the Chairman meant.

"The Chairman of ACF knows that people have the right to associate, hold opinions and change their minds. Members of ACF have the right to change their minds, including decamping across political parties. And that is why the change of mind which manifested during the elections into the Nigerian Governors Forum should not be allowed to factionalize both the Nigerian Governors Forum and Northern States Governors Forum the way they have been factionalized".
