THE Chief of Staff, Rivers State Government House, Mr. Tony Okocha, on Sunday, said he had honoured the invitation of the state Police Commissioner, Mr. Joseph Mbu.
Mbu had invited the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mr. Otelemaba Amachree, and Okocha to make clarifications on claims of a plot to assassinate the state Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi.
Okocha had raised the alarm that some unidentified politicians were trying to cause mayhem in the state and make it (Rivers) ungovernable.
Though Amachree and Okocha had since gone to court to restrain the police from arresting them, the chief of staff said he had visited the state police command and met with the commissioner of police since he got the invitation.
Speaking in a telephone interview with The PUNCH, Okocha said, "I have gone to the police command, based on their invitation and the commissioner of police kept me waiting at the lobby for two hours. I have since made my statement."
On the allegation by the police that he threatened the life of the owner of Port Harcourt Club, Okocha denied the claim, adding that the allegation against him was targeted at maligning his person.
Okocha said Mbu had suddenly become a politician, even as he faulted the alleged withdrawal of security personnel attached to government officials by the state police commissioner.
The chief of staff explained that he went to court to stop the police from trampling on his fundamental human rights.
"On the issue of threatening someone's life, let me say that at no time did I threaten somebody's life. I am a law abiding citizen and not a ragamuffin," Okocha said.
He reiterated his call on the Inspector General of Police to transfer Mbu, maintaining that the state police commissioner had not conducted himself in a professional manner.

At least it still makes a lot of sense that the police invitation was honoured. So many big Nigerians tend to ignore...
