Inuwa Abdul-Kadir disclosed this during his inspection tour to the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre and the Youth Development Centre both situated at Shere Hills, Jos, Plateau State at the weekend.
The Minister revealed also that the repositioning of the Youth Development Center and the Citizenship and Leadership Training Center is in line with President Goodluck Jonathan's transformation agenda to empower Nigerian youths to become employers of labour rather than job seekers. He reasoned that the development of the youths is a matter for all tiers of government and as such called for robust synergy in tackling the challenges confronting the youths in the country as the Federal Government could not do it alone.
While disclosing the purpose of the visit, the Minister stated that his visit to the centers was absolutely necessary as he needed to see the facilities and state of infrastructures at the training centers which were expected to provide crucial basic training and leadership skills to Nigerian youths to make them socially responsible and to be patriotic citizens. He explained that the issue of restiveness among youths could be reduced significantly should they avail themselves of the wonderful opportunities offered by these training centers.
He underscored the importance of the institutions which were established several years ago by emphasizing the impact of the leadership and life skills modules on the citizens. He further stated that the two institutions were now more needed than ever as the nation grapples with insecurity and other forms of criminality.
Earlier, Mrs. Deborah Pitmang, the North Central Coordinator of the centers commended the Minister for his passion and zeal to revamp the centers, stressing that his visit would positively impact on their activities and the development of the youths.
Those present during the Minister's tour were the North Central Coordinator, Federal Ministry of Youth Development, Jos, Mrs. Deborah Pitmang; the Head, Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre, Jos, Dr. Ademola Adedeji; the Special Adviser to the Governor of Plateau State on Youth Development, Evangelist Adamu Bala and the representative of the National Youth President, Lenguwe Wushangka.
