Post by: OgunState on Jun 25, 2013, 12:31 AM
Better times are here for rural dwellers in Ogun State as the government has reiterated its unwavering commitment to continuously embark on projects that would boost their economic activities and give them a new lease of life.

Commissioner for Rural Development, Hon. Falilu Sabitu who gave this indication during a chat with newsmen in his office, pointed out that already, the State Government had procured 2,500 pieces of ceramic water filter pots known as ‘Omilero Pots” which would be distributed across the 20 Local Government Areas of the State.

When distributed, Sabitu opined that they would help put an end to water borne diseases such as dysentery, cholera and diarrhea, adding that they would also help decimate pathogens which breed typhoid and other water related diseases.

He said the Senator Ibikunle Amosun led administration was committed to providing necessary basic amenities such as potable drinking water, roads and electricity that would make life more abundant for the rural dwellers and also put an end to rural-urban drift.

“Our plan is to develop the rural areas to city standards, make life more meaningful for our people in the rural areas even as we carry out renewal of the urban centres” Sabitu remarked. On future plans, the Commissioner revealed that in the next two years, the Ministry would open up about 440 kilometers of roads across the three senatorial districts with at least two roads tarred in each Local Government Areas.

Sabitu however enjoined that people should pay their taxes and levies appropriately, so that government would have enough fund to implement the project, admonishing that they should make maintenance culture their guiding principle.
