A group known as Kaduna Progressive Agenda, KPA, has asked Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero of Kaduna State to break his silence on the alleged misappropriation of N560 million by the committee on the implementation of Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme, SURE-P, funds.

The KPA Chairman, Murtala Abubakar, said in a statement at the weekend that the governor's silence on the scam reported by the state House of Assembly had exposed government's inability to fight corruption.

The Assembly had passed a vote of no confidence in the Commissioner for Water Resources, Mr. John Ayuba, over poor implementation of SURE-P.

Ayuba was the commissioner for Finance who was responsible for the implementation of SURE-P before his recent deployment to Water Resources in a cabinet reshuffle.

The Assembly at its sitting last week presided over by the Speaker, Mu'azu Gangara, accused the commissioner of failing to properly account for the money spent on the programme.

The statement reads in part: "The startling revelations indicated that from the very beginning the SURE-P programme was designed for failure.

"This apparent failure by the governor informed us that the administration of Mukhtar Ramalan Yero's disposition is not to fight corruption.

"By exhibiting this negative tendency, the people of Kaduna State should go beyond believing good intension of this administration and to demand accountability and good governance in public life."
