The VC said this after the Society conferred the Fellowship of the Society for Environmental Health of Nigeria (FSEHON) on him, at the institution whilst the institution was hosting a three-day environmental health workshop, which the VC earlier declared open.

He said that the University would ensure that the conference would be a success and assured that FUTO would remain environmental friendly.

The Vice Chancellor explained that it was one of the factors that led to the establishment of the Institute for Environment Health Technology in the University.

He stressed that his administration would not relent at making the University environment one of the best in the world.

Professor Asiabaka commended the Society for Environmental Health of Nigeria (SEHON) for holding the conference in the University and also finding him worthy to be honoured with its Fellowship award.

Mrs. Hadiza Mailafia, the Minister of Environment disclosed that the Federal Government had purchased N20 Million worth of environmental health equipment in 2010 for FUTO to enable the University continue to produce high level manpower in environmental health technology.

She urged the participants to take seriously what they were taught in order to advance the level of environmental health in the country.

The Minister explained that environmental health needs to be well funded, and solicited the support of Nigerian in transforming the environment.

Mr. Moses Aniefiok, the National President of SEHON explained that environmental health research was a diligent and systematic inquiry of investigation to validate or refine existing knowledge to new knowledge that guides the practice.

He stressed that environmental health as a science and a profession emerged through the needs and exigencies to protect public health, rather than the desire or sentiment of professionalism.

Professor Sridhar of the University of Ibadan; Professor Iwuala of Federal University Technology, Owerri; Professor Ife Ofoezie of Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-lfe; and a host of others gave lectures on environmental health issues.
