Title: Nigeria U20s Target Round Of 16
Post by: Folami David on Jun 27, 2013, 12:40 PM
Nigeria's Flying Eagles have their eyes set on reaching the knockout stages of the ongoing Fifa Under-20 World Championship in Turkey.
.
John Obuh's men go head-to-head against South Korea at the Turk Telekom Arena in Istanbul this Thursday.
.
The Nigeria manager has already branded the Koreans as "a familiar" opposition.
.
"Korea are a familiar team to me having first met them at the Under-17 World Cup in 2009. We also played against them at an invitational tournament they hosted in 2011," Obuh said.
.
Nigeria are third in Group B behind Portugal and South Korea and will need an outright win to avoid the mathematical calculation of reaching the round of 16 as one of the best four third-placed teams or miss out completely.
.
The Flying Eagles are currently ranked top in the log of the best third-placed teams.
.
Nigeria are just a point behind the Koreans and captain Abduljeleel Ajagun will look to shoulder his team's scoring responsibilities once again alongside Aminu Umar.
.
Ajagun is joint leading scorer with Portugal's Bruma and Jese Rodriguez of Spain on three goals each.
.
But Obuh's men will have to be wary of Chung-Ang University attacking midfielder, Ryu Seung-Woo, who has scored twice in the tournament against Cuba and Portugal in South Korea's opening two games . Nigeria would also have to contend with the pacy brand of football the Asians play.
.
By the time centre referee from New Zealand, Peter O'Leary, ends the contest, Nigeria will know if they will progress to the round of 16 automatically or as one of the best four third-placed teams or miss out entirely.
.
The match between the Flying Eagles and their South Korean counterparts will kick off from 3pm Nigerian time (4pm CAT) and will be live on SuperSport High Definition as well as SuperSport 3.

They should forget about round of 16 and think farther...They are a force to reckon with in the competition.
