An Ado Ekiti Magistrate's Court yesterday arraigned four men in Ilupeju-Ekiti over their alleged involvement in the arson that took place at the palace of the Apeju of Ilupeju Ekiti, Oba Olaleye Oniyelu, last Friday.

Those arraigned include: Bamidele Asoge, Salami Temitope, Ikan Ilesanmi and Arowojobe Sunday.

It will be recalled that trouble broke out in the community last Friday, when youths, who supported one of the contenders for the Olugbosu chieftaincy title, Mr. James Aseperi, were said to have attacked the palace over the monarch's installation of one Mr. Kayode Ojo, for the title.

Magistrate Adefunke Ajibade, however, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N50, 000 and one surety each for the accused persons in like sum and adjourned the case to July 12, for further hearing.

Police prosecutor, Corporal Curtis Enabulele, who told the court that the accused persons committed the offence on June 21, 2013 at the palace of Ilupeju-Ekiti, alleged that they assembled together to destroy the palace.

He accused them of torching the houses of Ojo Kayode, Ojo Olojanla and Aseperi James and as well damaged the police vehicle that was deployed to the crisis scene, saying the offence contravened section 356 (2), 76 of the Criminal Code, Cap C 16, Laws of Ekiti State 2012.

But counsel for the accused persons, Mr. Emmanuel Adedeji, who assured the court that they would not jump bail, pleaded with the court to grant the accused persons bail.
