Nigerian Union of Teachers on Thursday frowned on Edo State Government's decision to penalise striking primary school teachers who protested against the non-implementation of their Teachers' Salary Structure.
The NUT National President, Mr. Michael Alogba-Olukoya, told the
News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that the union did not expect the action from Governor Adams Oshiomhole's administration.
Oshiomhole on June 19, approved full implementation of TSS for secondary school teachers and said primary school teachers would not enjoy the largesse for now.
But the NUT president said the government action was discriminatory.
He added, "For all intents and purposes, what happened in Edo was unexpected from a governor who had championed strikes as a labour leader.
"The union will send a high-powered delegation to the governor to handle the issue in line with labour laws."
