Former Nigeria defender, Andrew Uwe, believes that the present crop of Super Eagles still need the guidance of a few old guards to be ready for high- level football.
.
Uwe made it clear that the present Nigeria squad under Stephen Keshi have potentials to become world beaters but insisted that they will still need to be schooled by the addition of experienced players.
.
The former Leventis United man would rather not mention names from the experienced players being clamoured for from some quarters.
.
"Stephen has put together a team of talented players I must acknowledge. Kudos must go to him and his coaching crew for the good job. But there's always a limit to which that can take you to. At the Confederations Cup, the team did well by my own standards and even held Spain well. However, they lacked experience when you considered how they played against Uruguay and then Spain. Those two teams won because they had the experience of top level football.
.
"Now don't get me wrong. I'm not saying Keshi should replace this present squad with experienced players but I think if they're kept together with the experienced ones, the young players will learn one or two things from the older ones. That's the point.
.
There is need to get the balancing act of the team right," explained Uwe, who now works in Germany as youth team coach.
That is very true and I agree big time with it. The kind of players we used in the Confed Cup can't yield any positive result.
