Former Ekiti State Governor, Chief Segun Oni, at the weekend, made moves to stop the conduct of a fresh zonal congress of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the South-West, citing the litigation he instituted against the dissolution of the South-West zonal executive under his leadership.
Oni, in a letter to the Deputy President of the Senate and Secretary, Special Convention Planning Committee, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, said there was no way the primary election could be conducted for now, pending the outcome of the case he instituted on the matter.
A statement by his media aide, Mr. Lere Olayinka, said the former governor, in the letter by his counsel, Mr. Gboyega Oyewole, relied on; "The pendency of an action in Suit No: AB/58/2013, challenging the dissolution of the Chief Segun Oni-led South-West zonal executive of the PDP."
The letter reads in part: "We wish to humbly advise your distinguished self of the position of the law that when a Motion on Notice is pending before a court of law and same has been served on all parties, all the parties are expected to fold their arms and refrain from doing anything capable of overreaching the pending application."
It will be recalled that the PDP National Working Committee which had some months ago dissolved the South-West zonal executives of the party purportedly acting on court orders, last week ordered fresh primary in the zone to fill the positions.
