Akwa Ibom State Governor Godswill Akpabio has urged Nigerians to develop good attitude towards public property.
Akpabio, who made the appeal on Friday while inaugurating some projects in Oron, Oron Local Government, noted that many people vandalised government property because of the negative attitude they had towards such public facilities.
Represented by the state Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mr. Iboro Ekanem, the governor urged Nigerians to see public facilities as their own and to ensure their proper maintenance.
He said, "When you protect these projects and make good use of them, and the projects become sustainable, they will add value to your life and the Uncommon Transformation will also transform your life."
Classroom blocks, roads, hybrid power water system and electricity projects were some of the inaugurated in the council on the occasion.
Ekanem said, "I am happy that these projects are here for you to see. We have gone round all the localities. You have been there with us. They are not projects inaugurated on papers, they are projects on ground."
The council Chairman, Mr. Orman Esin, appealed to the people to protect the facilities against theft and vandalism.
He also urged the state government to intervene in checking erosion in the council.
