Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has reiterated the need for Africans to show greater commitment to the promotion of the African culture. Ajimobi made the call yesterday while declaring open the third Toyin Falola Annual International Conference on Africa and the African Diaspora, TOFAC.

The governor, who spoke through the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Princess Adetutu Ahigbe- Adeyemi, said the rich African culture faced the risk of extinction and urged stakeholders to embrace the drive to promote the values of Africa.

Ajimobi urged TOFAC to do its best in setting agenda for the promotion of the Yoruba culture. He said: "I am very happy about the whole idea and the personalities behind this programme. "I am expectant that the conference will, without doubt, offer recommendations and suggestions that would be beneficial to Oyo State and the entire nation."

The convener of TOFAC 2013 entitled: "Ethnicity, Race and Peace in Africa and the African Diaspora," Prof. Ademola Dasylva, said the forum engaged the mind in matters of serious concern on Africa and the African Diaspora. He said: "The main objectives are promotion of excellence in Africa and the African Diaspora cultural studies.

"We create general awareness and proffer enduring solutions on matters that concern Africa. "TOFAC is originally designed to go round African countries to engender a network of budding scholars, to facilitate effective mentorship, global exposure and visibility."
