The National Universities Commission has accredited 45 programmes it assessed at the Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Oladipo Aina, said this in an interview with journalists in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday.

The vice chancellor said all the  70 programmes being offered in the 31-year-old university were currently enjoying accreditation from the universities regulatory agency.

According to him, this is the "first time the university will achieve this great feat."

Aina also said the university had built a modern medical library for College of Medicine, describing it as the best in the nation.

He explained that the library was funded through its internally generated revenue,  with the support of the state government.  He put the value of the medical library at over N194m.

According to him, this underscores the new tempo of construction of functional buildings in the university.

Aina, while defending the sacking of six lecturers for intercourseual harassment, plagiarism and falsification of examination scores by the Governing Council of the university, said the decision was aimed at sanitising the school.

He added that the expulsion and rustication of 324 students would also make the students to sit up.
