Title: Glo League Win Good Omen – Tenger
Post by: Folami David on Jul 04, 2013, 04:39 PM
Akwa United coach, Justin Tenger has said his side's win at the start of the second stanza strongly showed the side will not go down at the end of the season.
.
The Uyo-based side defeated Gombe United 3-2 in the mid-week Glo Premier League Matchday 20 encounter at the Uyo Township Stadium.
.
Akwa United were three goals in front before the visitors came back strongly in the second half to record two quick goals. Mfon Udoh grabbed a brace and Ubong Ekpai got the third to give their fans a good welcome back gift after the side's temporary banishment to Rojenny Stadium, Oba.
.
Tenger said the hard fought victory will boost his wards confidence going into subsequent matches.
.
"It was a keenly and closely fought game, we were three goals up before Gombe United fought back with two goals to leave final score at 3-2 in our favour.
.
"I blamed Gombe United goals on loss of
concentration on the side of my players especially the goalkeeper who appeared to have let in the second goal for the visitors.
.
"We're really grateful to God for the victory and to have started the second stanza on a winning note.
.
"I see the win as good omen of more good results on our way in this stanza more so as strong indication that we won't be relegated at the end of the season.
.
"The win is definitely a morale boost to the players and more of such positive results will strengthen their confidence in subsequent matches which ultimately will greatly help our course.
.
"We're back at our home ground, we'll have our fans solidly behind us and surely things will be better. I'm seeing better days ahead," said the former Niger Tornadoes coach to supersport.com.
.
The victory has increased Akwa United.
