Title: Reps strip president, governors of immunity
Post by: Mirror on Jul 04, 2013, 11:01 PM
The House of Representatives Ad hoc Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution has stripped the president, vice-president, governorS and deputy governors  of immunity from criminal prosecution.

At the presentation of the Constitution Review Committee's report today,  the representatives said the occupants of the office do not deserve such privilege.

Deputy Speaker of the House who doubles as the  committee chairman, Emeka Ihedioha, while presenting the report at the plenary   stated that the  decision was in sync with Nigerians.

Section 308 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (Amended) precludes the occupants of the offices from criminal prosecution.

Specifically, Section 308 subsection 1(a) states that: "No civil or criminal proceedings shall be instituted or continued against a person to whom this section applies during his period of office."

Well since they have the power to do that no one can hold them for it. The president and governors will have to understand the angle they're coming from.
