Newcastle United attacker, Shola Ameobi will make a return to the Super Eagles.
.
Ameobi controversially missed out on the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations despite being included in coach Stephen Keshi's provisional squad for the tournament after it was revealed that a clause in his Newcastle United contract would prevent him from competing at the tournament.
.
A release made available to supersport.com on Thursday by the media department of the Super Eagles revealed that Ameobi is now free to play for Nigeria as the said "clause has been removed."
.
"Ameobi said the clause has been removed and he will be ready to play for the Super Eagles anytime he is called upon," the release read.
.
Ameobi was also quoted in the release as saying that: "I will love to play for Nigeria under Stephen Keshi because he is a good coach, above all I am very proud to be a Nigerian and will always grab the opportunity to don the green white colours of my fatherland."
.
Keshi, who has never hidden his admiration for the forward reacted to the news with delight.
.
"He is no doubt a good player and the national team can make do with his experience anytime we call upon him," he said.
.
Ameobi who has been capped severally by England at junior level has one cap for Nigeria.
Ameobi is a dope footballer so he'll do well if he gets into the Nigeria team full time. Keshi must teach him well
