Title: Slain traders: Lawmaker tasks President on security
Post by: Punch on Jul 07, 2013, 03:01 PM
Representative of Oluyole Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Dr. Ibrahim Olaifa, on Saturday urged President Goodluck Jonathan to improve the security of the country in the interest of the citizens.

Olaifa stated this in his condolence message to families of the 10 slain Bodija market traders and the Food Stuff Sellers Association in the market.

The traders were murdered by suspected Boko Haram members last Friday while on a business trip to Mogunu, Borno State.

The lawmaker said the Federal Government should seek a lasting solution to incessant waste of lives in the land.

He said, "The killing of the traders was a sad incidence and share waste of human life. President Goodluck Jonathan should take a decisive step in protecting the lives of innocent Nigerians.

"It is high time the Federal Government strengthened security across the nation. The Joint Task Force on security and other security agencies should ensure adequate security of lives and property of the people.

"The killing of the traders from Ibadan in Borno State contradicts the freedom of movement of the Nigerian citizens as enshrined in chapter four of the 1999 Constitution.

"Bodija International Market is a major market in the country and its importance in the economic development of the nation cannot be over emphasised.

"It is, therefore, worrisome that some devilish people attacked and killed the traders while in search of means of livelihood."

We've always known that Security is one of the greatest problems Nigeria is facing right about now. I'm not in anyway surprised.
