No fewer than 100 surveillance and intelligence personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) were last Friday graduated by the Corp's College of Security in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The officers, who were of the superintendent cadre, were part of the special personnel of the Corp saddled with the responsibilities of stamping out crime and guarantee safety of government's critical installations, such as power transmission lines and petroleum pipelines through intelligence report gathering.

A statement by the Media and Publicity Officer of the College, Wale Ajayi, stated that the intelligence officers were re-trained for arms handling as well as in the basic knowledge of stripping and assembling of rifles and ammunition for the on-thefield operations.

Ajayi quoted Provost of the College, Adekunle Dauda Elesin, as saying that the re-training of the officer was in line with the Act that established the Corp.

The provost stressed that the just completed re-training course for officers is just the beginning and little from the modalities put in place to achieve the mission statement of the Corps, which included "efficiently provide intelligence information to the Ministry on any matter relating to crime control, riot, disorder, revolt , strike or religious unrest as well as subversive activity by members of the public which are capable of frustrating government programmes, policy or vandalising critical infrastructures".
