General Motors will idle its Detroit-Hamtramck plant, as it phases out production of the Cadillac DTS and Buick Lucerne, boosts capacity for the 2012 Volt and Opel Ampera and prepares to add production early next year of the redesigned 2013 Chevrolet Malibu.

The plant will also prepare to boost capacity for the 2012 Volt and Opel Ampera.
The plant expansion will enable Chevrolet to make the Volt available in all states by the end of the year.
