Indications emerged yesterday in Abeokuta that the National leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may overrule the suspension of former Ogun State Governor Gbenga Daniel earlier placed on him by the state chapter of the party.
It will be recalled that Daniel was suspended for alleged anti-party activities by the state chapter through his ward 12 in Shagamu Local Government Area of the state. He was alleged to have been actively involved in the funding of the Labour Party (LP).
But speaking at the commissioning of the Abeokuta South Local Government secretariat of the party yesterday, PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Bamangar Tukur, said the former governor could only be suspended by the National Executive Council (NEC) of the party and not as it was shabbily done by the state chapter.
Tukur, who was represented by a PDP chieftain, Mr. Ezekiel Adeniji, said Daniel remains a statesman who must be accorded his deserved status in the party. He said: "If the suspension was not legally followed, the suspension may be reviewed by the National Executive Council.
Daniel is still a member of PDP". Speaking on allegation that Daniel was tactically romancing the Labor Party, Tukur said: "Peradventure some of his followers decided to join Labour Party, they can go to any party and he can't stop them."
