Christian leaders in Lagos State on Monday urged political leaders to take security issue seriously, while also advising them to stay away from sin.

The clerics spoke during an inter-denominational prayer service at the Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa, Ikeja, tagged, 'Lagos Prays'.

The programme, organised by Lagos State Government, Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Christian Religious Matters, was meant to pray for the state. It was replicated in all the five divisions of the state.

At Alausa, the moderator of the event, Rev. Sam Ogedengbe, said political leaders must focus on keeping their people safe, while imbibing the culture of staying away from sin.

He said Christians in the state should "as a matter of importance pray fervently" for peace and security in Lagos.

"Lagos State is the centre of excellence where things happen and spread to every nook and crany of this country. We must continue to pray that only positive things continue to happen. This will lead to peace even in our country, while all the residents will become more prosperous," he said.

Archbishop of Lagos, Methodist Church of Nigeria, Most Rev. Joseph Ajayi, who made the call to worship, said if the leaders were at peace, the country would be at peace.

The Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, Ikeja branch, Bishop Dr. Taiwo Ajose, read the Bible passage for the event, taken from 2 Chronicles 6: 22-41.

Most Rev. Emmanuel Udofia, urged leaders in the country to stay away from sin. He said when a nation lived according to God's will, He would "look speedily unto us and hear the prayer of the good people of this country."

The Lagos Prays programme for the Lagos Island division was held at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Campos Square, and coordinated by Pastor Gabriel Adu.
