The Itori Unit Command of the Federal Road safety Corps said on Tuesday that it had so far prosecuted no fewer than 300 motorists for various traffic offences since January.
The command said the 300 motorists were part of the 1,800 traffic offenders arrested this year by the unit.
The Commander of the Itori Unit of the FRSC, Mr. Fatai Bakare, said this while briefing journalists on the Special Patrol conducted by the unit along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
Bakare added that the 300 traffic offenders so far prosecuted by the unit command had been convicted by the FRSC Mobile Court.
"We have a mobile court, a joint mobile court in Ota, with Ota, Agbado and Idiroko as unit commands. We have prosecuted not less than 300 offenders from January to date through our mobile court and we have arrested about 1800 offenders this year," he said.
The Itori FRSC unit commander also said no fewer than 50 motorists were arrested by the unit during the Special Patrol conducted ahead of the Ramadan fasting period.
"Right now, we have arrested 50 vehicles and you can see that most of them are private and government vehicles. The penalties range from N2000 to N10,000.
"If anybody is arrested for dangerous driving, it is N50,000 fine. But as you know, we are not after the fine. FRSC is not a money-making organisation. What we are after is to save lives and property on our roads."
